Mel B, a former Spice Girl, requested an increase in child support payments in court papers filed in 2020, stating that her income had “dramatically decreased.”
Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown received an increase in child support from Eddie Murphy.
After they welcomed daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown in 2007, the 61-year-old US actor and the 47-year-old English singer agreed to pay each other $61,000 per month. She is now 15 years old.
Before Brown filed court documents in 2020 asking for the payments to be increased, claiming Murphy’s income had “dramatically reduced,” Murphy was paying $44,000 each month.
The attorneys for Brown stated in court documents obtained by Daily Mail: “Up until recently, Melanie has been fortunate in her job to support a good lifestyle for herself and Angel.
Unfortunately, Melanie must now consider changing child support for the first time because her income has drastically decreased.
In an August agreement, Murphy, who is described as a “extraordinarily high earner” in the filing, agreed to make the additional payments beginning in October of last year and continuing until Angel turns 18. He also gave his approval for paying Brown’s legal expenses.
Murphy, who has ten kids with various women, didn’t have a relationship with Angel until recently since he claimed paternity when Brown became pregnant in 2006. A paternity test soon made sure of it.
After Murphy’s divorce from the actress Nicole Mitchell, the two started dating; however, they broke up before Angel was born.
In her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest, Brown, who settled with Murphy in 2009, talked about their breakup.
The former Scary Spice claimed Murphy was the love of her life but that she had been “spectacularly dumped” after being away from him for a few days to reflect on their relationship after negotiations to buy a house fell through.
Murphy has since come to accept that he is Angel’s father after initially denying it.
“I said to Eddie, “I need a few days off. To think, I need some time. Are you crazy, he asked. What should you be considering?,” Brown asked in her book.
After seeing her mother Andrea in Leeds, Brown claimed she flew back to Los Angeles a few days later in order to “make it work.”
However, a TV reporter questioned Murphy about the pregnancy while she was on the plane, and he responded, “We’re not together anymore, and I don’t know whose that child is until it comes out and has a blood test.”
Brown described the feeling as “sick, humiliated, and confused.”
Before entirely cutting her off, Murphy called Brown to apologize for being caught off guard, she claimed. “I lost Eddie, who I had been deeply in love with.”
However, Murphy and his mother Lillian now play a crucial part in Angel’s life, according to Brown.
It’s weird because now that his mother is in my life, she keeps saying things like, “You’ve always been my favorite,” and I keep saying, “Oh stop it Lillian. One of my biggest delights in life is watching Angel spend her weekends with Eddie and getting to know the man she so resembles.
She also talked openly about her financial difficulties following her acrimonious divorce from Stephen Belafonte in 2017.
“I have earned more than £80 million ($158 million) in the last twenty or so years of my life. I already owned a home, a loft apartment in Los Angeles, and a successful profession when I met my second husband, Stephen. In a bank, I had US$936 ($1667) when I left him, Brown wrote in her book.
