A teen girl was allegedly followed from her school bus stop to her home by a male. He had no idea, though, that her Army veteran father had returned home — and he was ready to take care of business.

Mike Oliver, a father of 15 and an Army veteran, was furious when he discovered a man in his Livonia, Michigan, house on a Monday afternoon.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the man allegedly followed his teenage daughter from her school bus stop to their home. “The door will remain open. “Then I heard her speaking,” Oliver remembered. “I get up, walk over to the door, and there’s a man there.”

Oliver’s daughter had sensed something wasn’t quite right after getting off the bus. Someone was following her as she walked home, and she quickly realized they were watching her.

She was accosted by a man as she approached her front door. He allegedly followed her into the porch and asked whether her parents were home before following her into the house, according to WXYZ.

Mike Oliver was sitting in his living room, waiting for his 15-year-old, 10th-grade daughter to get home from Franklin High School, when he noticed the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, had followed his daughter home.

When Oliver realized this, he questioned the man bluntly what he was doing on his land.

Rather than responding, the suspect attempted to flee the house. Oliver, on the other hand, was not going to let him go so easily. The Army veteran went for the man, who was eventually identified as 27-year-old David Roberts of Livonia by police. Roberts didn’t get very far in his search.

In fact, when he battled with him in the front yard, Oliver stopped him before he even made it off his land. “I grabbed him by the hair,” Oliver recalled the moment he halted the man in his tracks. “He was twisting like an alligator, and he got away.” He dashed around the bend.”

Despite the fact that the suspect eluded him at first, the vigilant father was unfazed. Mike Oliver got into his truck and drove around the neighborhood with David Roberts. Oliver’s 19-year-old son and neighbors also got involved, attempting to assist Oliver in tracking down Roberts while he was on the run.

Multiple police officers came within minutes and discovered David Roberts in a nearby backyard. He was apprehended and charged with breaking and entering as well as assaulting a police officer.

Although his bond was set at 10% of $100,000, the Army veteran father believed he got off lightly.

“He could’ve been laying there on the ground today,” Oliver remarked, referring to Roberts’ possible fate. “It could have been a lot worse for him.” But it’s not about being right; it’s about doing the right thing,” the Army veteran explained.

Despite the fact that the teen is safe, she did not escape the incident undamaged. Instead, she’s afraid of going to school and doesn’t want to.

“This year, my daughter is doing well in school,” Cindy Oliver, the Franklin High School 10th grader’s mother, revealed. “She didn’t want to go to school today because she was worried about her safety.”

Parents and children are being advised to keep an eye on their surroundings in the aftermath of the event. It is also encouraged that schoolchildren, regardless of age, walk to and from their home with a friend or, better yet, a group.

They should alert an adult or contact 911 if they observe someone or something odd, and they should flee if they feel threatened.

Although it may appear to be common knowledge, this simple reminder is much required. There are monsters among us, and our best defense is to be aware of their presence.
