A man on a plane wonders if it’s rude to eat a burger next to a vegetarian.

A recent airline flight had a culinary clash in the air, which brought to light how people’s eating habits change when they’re in small spaces.

Problems were bound to arise, and the situation led to complaints and inquiries about appropriate eating habits in public places.

The passenger wrote about what happened on Reddit’s “Am I The A*e” thread, asking himself if he was the mean one. Read on to find out what went down.

This Reddit user (OP) got into a pretty sticky situation on a recent flight when another passenger didn’t like him eating a meal he had bought ahead of time.

“My plane ride is eight hours with a short stop. The first flight had a small cracker pack, and the second will have the same. I barely had time to run from one end of the airport to the other during the connection. “When I got to my connecting gate, I saw that I had time to order food but not eat it,” OP wrote.

“When I asked the gate agent if I could bring food on board, she happily told me that I could.” “I got a drink, fries, and a burger,” OP said.

He went on, “When I was told it was okay to put the tray down, I did, and I began to eat.” The woman next to me then told me that the smell of my burger and fries was making her sick because she doesn’t eat meat or fried foods.

The woman, on the other hand, was getting louder, so the man wrote that he finally told her, “I bought the food after checking with the gate agent and I’m hungry, so she’s out of luck.” When she called the flight attendant, she was told, “You’re welcome to eat food you bought at the airport.”

People on the Internet spoke out in support of the passenger who ate the burger. One person wrote, “Just because she’s vegetarian doesn’t mean she can tell other people what to eat.”

Another person said, “I understand how unpleasant it is to smell meat, but it’s not reasonable to expect everyone on a plane to accommodate your preferences.”

“This isn’t her personal space; she should change how she acts here,” wrote another user.

While public transportation can be tricky, eating on a plane is a common thing to do, someone else said.

What began as a simple meal turned into a larger conversation about how to respect different dietary needs and find common ground when living with others.
