At 45, my life turned into hell: my husband left me, turned my son against me. I took a job as a cleaner just to survive. With the stress of divorce and court, I couldn’t focus, and eventually, I was fired.

Feeling lost, I wandered aimlessly. I was walking after getting fired, when suddenly, a blinding light hit my eyes, and the screech of brakes pierced my ears.

A car was speeding right at me! In shock, I stumbled and fell straight into a muddy puddle. The driver stopped just inches from my face.

Divorced, humiliated, fired—and now totally embarrassed.

The driver jumped out of the car: “DO YOU REALIZE YOU ALMOST DENTED MY CAR?!”

Me: “S-sorry…”

Driver: “Think next time, you idiot!”

A voice from behind: “Don’t you dare speak to a woman like that. Can I help you?”

Surprised by the sudden kindness, I turned to see who it was. And OH MY GOD!!

I turned my head, wiping the mud from my face, and froze.

Standing before me, dressed in a sharp suit and radiating authority, was Daniel Carter—the CEO of one of the biggest corporations in the city. A man I had only seen in magazines, someone completely untouchable to people like me.

The arrogant driver immediately paled when he saw Daniel. “M-Mr. Carter,” he stammered. “I didn’t know—”

Daniel raised a hand, cutting him off with a glare. “I don’t care who you thought she was,” he snapped. “Apologize. Now.”

The driver mumbled an apology before bolting into his car and speeding away, probably terrified of the consequences.

I sat there, stunned. “You… you didn’t have to do that,” I muttered, still feeling completely broken from everything I’d been through.

Daniel crouched beside me, offering his hand. “I couldn’t just stand by and watch a lady get treated like that,” he said simply.

I hesitated, then took his hand, letting him pull me up. My clothes were a disaster—muddy, torn, a perfect symbol of how wrecked my life had become.

But then, Daniel looked at me closer and his eyes widened slightly. “Wait… I know you,” he said slowly.

My heart stopped. “Excuse me?”

His expression softened. “You used to work at Sterling Enterprises, didn’t you? Years ago.”

My breath hitched. “Yes… I was a secretary there for a short time before I got married. How do you—”

“You were the only one who was kind to me back when I was just an intern,” he interrupted, smiling. “You gave me advice, helped me when I was struggling, even brought me coffee when no one else cared.”

I blinked, completely speechless.

“I never forgot that,” he continued. “And now, when I see you like this…” His jaw clenched. “What happened to you?”

Everything. Everything happened. My husband had destroyed my life, I had lost my son, I had nothing left.

Tears welled up in my eyes. “Life happened,” I whispered.

Daniel was quiet for a moment, then he nodded firmly, as if making a decision.

“Come with me,” he said.

“What?” I frowned.

“You helped me once, and now it’s my turn,” he said. “I need someone I can trust in my company. Someone hardworking. I don’t believe in accidents—this happened for a reason.”

I stared at him, stunned. Was this real? Could this really be happening?

“Are you serious?” I asked, my voice shaking.

He smirked. “Have dinner with me and let’s talk about it.”

And just like that, the worst day of my life turned into the unexpected beginning of something new.
