First public appearance after the scandal that had everyone talking

Actor Tom Welling, best known for his iconic role as Clark Kent on Smallville, made his first public appearance this weekend at MegaCon Orlando 2025 following his recent DUI arrest earlier this month.

The 47-year-old actor appeared composed and gracious as he participated in a fan panel and autograph signing on Saturday, marking a notable return to the spotlight amid legal troubles.

Welling was arrested in Los Angeles on April 5th after being pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to reports from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the actor cooperated with law enforcement at the time of the incident and was later released on bail. His court date is currently scheduled for May 14.

Despite the cloud of controversy, Welling was warmly received by fans at MegaCon. During the panel, which also featured several Smallville co-stars, he briefly acknowledged the situation without going into detail.

“I know it’s been a tough couple of weeks,” Welling said. “I just want to thank everyone for their support. It really means the world to me to be here with you.”

Throughout the event, Welling kept the focus on his career and upcoming projects, including a much-anticipated reunion special celebrating the 25th anniversary of Smallville, set to air later this year. Fans in attendance described him as “humble” and “grateful,” noting that he spent extra time engaging with attendees and posing for photos.

“He didn’t have to show up, but he did, and he handled it with a lot of grace,” said Danielle Ramirez, a longtime fan who attended the panel. “It shows his respect for the fans.”

While Welling’s legal situation remains unresolved, his appearance at MegaCon suggests a desire to move forward both personally and professionally. Neither Welling nor his representatives have released an official statement regarding the charges.

The actor’s participation in the event comes as part of a broader lineup of celebrity guests at MegaCon 2025, which continues through Sunday at the Orange County Convention Center.
