Forget the air conditioning! Here’s what you need to have in your home to escape the heat – it’s the most effective way!

The simple way out of the heatwave
The recent heatwave has been felt across the country and exposure to such high temperatures can have serious health repercussions, especially for vulnerable people such as children and the elderly. We try to do what we can to alleviate the suffocating feeling and keep out of the sun’s heat, so we often turn to old-fashioned solutions.

We end up investing good money in fans or air conditioners and often find that they are not the best choice for various reasons: either they are too expensive, or they break down if they are not of good quality (and that involves some investment that not everyone can afford), or they are not so friendly to the body.

However, there are some cheap and easy ways to beat the heat and keep our homes cool.

Of course, we all know that good home insulation can make all the difference on days when the thermometers reach ‘frightful’ temperatures, but it’s also good to know that it’s essential to air out your home in the mornings and evenings when the sun is not so strong. It is advisable to keep windows closed and curtains drawn to prevent the sun’s rays from entering the house.

It is good to keep them as opaque as possible. To cool your home effectively all you need to do is place sheets dampened with cold water in the windows. You can do this especially in the evening or in the morning, when you can open all the windows where you hang these sheets, letting the air circulate and ventilate the house.

Increased humidity in the house can be a big problem because it makes the temperatures feel more severe. It is important to have a dehumidifier in your home at all times. Satin bed linen is also recommended because it does not heat up the body and gives a cool feeling, especially if you have aired it out in the meantime.
