“We will be evicted because we haven’t paid our rent in months.”

Amy and Joshua, a young couple in their 20s with three children and one on the way, are on the verge of homelessness with just seven days notice to vacate their rental apartment.

They have struggled to pay their rent on time because they are dependent on government assistance.

They are still contemplating where to go after their current residence becomes unaffordable due to their impending eviction.

Amy and her partner required housing aid, but none of their relatives were able to help. An uncle from Somerset was the only relative who tried to help.

However, the housing authority threatened to evict them if they turned down a plan that would split up their family.

They were powerless, terrified, and without any other option.

It is difficult for Joshua and his family to know what to do because Barnsley Council must provide them signals on a frequent basis.

Victoria and Joshua Robertshaw had shared a house for all of their married life, although Joshua’s name was not on the lease. Only Victoria’s name was present. At the age of 45, she died from COVID-19 in August 2020.

Because to the council’s erratic decisions, Joshua and his family are in a difficult situation. Joshua is stubborn because he won’t separate his family because of their earlier choices.

After the judge issued an outright possession order, the residents of a particular house had seven days to leave the premises.

A representative for Sanctuary Housing said that although it took some time, the choice was ultimately made due to the mounting amount of accumulated unpaid rent.

The occupants had been dwelling in the property for months without paying rent. Nothing has changed despite all efforts to resolve the issue amicably.

Barnsley Council has been collaborating with the parties involved to find the tenants a new home as soon as possible in order to free up room for a family on the waiting list.

Jenny Platts, the Barnsley counselor in charge of the case, spoke about it and said that the housing division had given the couple advice and support on viable solutions.

Additionally, they are working hard to make it simple to locate appropriate hotels.
