You should know what a dryer sheet means if you find one in your mailbox.

Oh, summer. For most people, it’s their favorite time of the year because it means warmer weather, more plants, and hopefully lots of sunshine.

I agree that summer doesn’t have many bad things about it, but there are a few things I’d get rid of if I had divine power.

Before you say it, I know that wasps are important to the ecosystem and that I wouldn’t really wipe out a species just because I’m afraid of them. But I think we can all agree that they are one of the worst things that can happen at a BBQ, garden party, or – at least for me – when people are running for cover.

Luckily, I don’t work in a field where I regularly come into contact with wasps, hornets, or other insects that sting. That’s why I often think about the people who deliver mail.

Recently, a Reddit post went viral because it talked about the problems mail carriers have with wasps. People say that yellowjackets are a big problem because they like to build their nests in mailboxes.

The post says that wasps looking for a new home may think that mailboxes are a pretty good place to start. Wasps like places that keep them safe, out of sight, and warm at night, so these are the best places for them to live.

At this point, everything is fine. someone’s job to check those mailboxes regularly, otherwise it wouldn’t be possible. In their Reddit post, the mail carrier said that they often find mailboxes that are wasp nests, which means that they get stung when they accidentally put their hand inside the box to deliver the mail.

You say it’s a risk that comes with the job. Yes, but that doesn’t mean it has to be.

There’s even a cool trick you can use to keep wasps away, and it only involves a scented dryer sheet!

Wasps won’t try to build a nest in a mailbox because the dryer sheet smell makes them want to stay away.

That being said, here’s what you need to do right now:

  1. Choose your dryer sheet with a scent. Remember that smell is very important here, so pick one that has a strong scent.
  2. Stick the paper to the inside of your mailbox with tape.
  3. Make sure you get a new dryer sheet every so often so the scent doesn’t fade too much and stop being useful.

That’s it! If you want to help our hardworking mail carriers this summer, please share this article.
